SATURDAY RACE PREVIEWS
Doomben race 7 – Track condition is all important. Lean to Joint Chiefs on the proviso the track races no worse than slow or better. Likes Doomben but inside draw isn’t the bonus it first appears on paper because he normally gets out of his ground and finishes off. If breaks go his way in running he’s the one to beat. Kryptelon is an in form mare who ran out of her skin when a fast finishing 5th behind Pinwheel in the Ramornie Handicap at Grafton. Wide barrier draw doesn’t help. Mr Slick struggles to win these days but is partial to softish ground and this is his best chance of finding the post first in sometime.
Tips – Joint Chiefs (slow or better), Mr Slick, Kryptelon, Cocktail Supreme
Rosehill race 6 – Good race! Impossible to knock Adnocon’s form this campaign but not convinced he’s at home in the heavy. Historical performances suggest best wet trackers engaged here are Illuminates, Gergis, Mr Unforgettable, Altered Boy and Letchworth and not necessarily in that order. Finally settled on Altered Boy down on the minimum. Is proficient in all going at his optimum distance range of 1500-1600 metres notwithstanding he’s no wins from 10 attempts at this venue. Madibagold and Gergis are rarely far way in this class and a must for all exotic bets.
Tips – Altered Boy (slow to heavy), Madibagold, Gergis, Letchworth.
Caulfield race 6 – Trifecta jackpot race. Carryover pool $174,056. Looks a race in three or maybe a race in one if AJC Derby winner Shoot Out runs to his very best he wins. Is partial to the fire out of the ground which het gets here and will be well ridden by top Queensland hoop Stathi Katsidis. Another handy sprinting 3YO Tollesprit is the hardest to beat. Races well fresh and is drawn to get all favours. Velocitea is an honest mare who loves Caulfield and sprints well when her races are spaced. If there is to be a blow out it could well be the toppy Mr Baritone.
Tips – Shoot Out (dead to heavy), Tollesprit, Velocitea, Mr Baritone.
Belmont race 7 – 4YO mare Heart Ache has changed stable since being unplaced at Ascot on 13 February. Her form before that was excellent and has performed okay fresh up in the past. Watch for her late. Chachi has a 50% winning strike rate at this distance range and it might pay to forgive recent failures over 1200 and 1300 metres. Search Me was never a factor on slow ground 1st up and is better suited back to top of ground conditions. Chopin like Heart Ache races from a new barn this time in and isn’t without a fluker’s chance in an open race.
Tips – Heart Ache, Chachi, Search Me, Chopin. |
